RESULTS: SPECIAL ELECTION




In results for the Special Elections in Oregon, there will be changes in the Port of Astoria Commission
For position one, challenger James Campbell defeated 12-year incumbent Larry Pfund with 3,252 votes  or 58 percent of the total over Pfund’s 2,232 votes, or 40 percent.

For Position 2, Stephen Fulton is the winner, with 2,597 votes, or 45 percent of the total.  Second in place was former Warrenton Mayor Gil Gramson, with 1,818 votes (31 percent) and David Maki 1,250 (21 percent)

And Ric Gerttula is the winner for  Position 5 with 2,334 votes (46 percent), a handy win over Mark Mead, who polled 1,996 votes (39 percent) and Brad Smithart, owner of the Astoria Riverwalk Inn.  Smithart got 651 votes (12 percent).


In the Astoria School Board race, Grace Laman won the position one seat, in a narrow victory, with 902 votes, or nearly 50 percent, over Janice Horning’s 884 votes, or 49 %.

Jeanette Sampson will remain in office in Position 4.  She received 999 votes (57 percent) Her challenger Cameron Brister received 738 votes (42 percent). Sampson opposed the proposed health center at Astoria High School.  Brister ran in favor.  The Astoria School Board voted down the proposal on May 8th.
The Jewell School District Position 2 race was very close in last night’s tally.  

Matt Armstrong, who was appointed to the position in March 2012, held a 3 vote lead over challenger Michael Stahy. Armstrong got 71 votes (51 percent), over Stahy’s 68 votes (49 percent).
The Daily Astorian reports a recount is possible.

For Warrenton-Hammond School District’s position 4, Adam Neahring won with 521 votes (62 percent) over David Goldthorpe who received 317 votes (38 percent).

The Sunset Empire Transportation Board of Directors will have a new face at the table.  Kevin Widener won the seat with 2,454 votes (65 percent) over  Ken Mancebo’s 1,234 votes, or 33 percent).

Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District in South Clatsop County had one contested race for its board, George Stacey won by 825 votes (72 percent) over second in place Marti Wajc’s 310 (27 percent).

Knappa, Lewis and Clark, Cannon Beach and Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection Districts all won their funding levies.

City of Warrenton voters OK’d a change to their city charter to allow direct elections of the Mayor.  The measure passed by 88%, with 723 yes votes to 92 against. The change will take place in 2014.

In Tillamook County:

The County Road Bon passed with 3,463 votes for, over 3,296 against in last night’s early returns.

Voters rejected the Tillamook School District Bond with 1,880 No votes over 1,295 for the measure.

For the Tillamook School Board Michelle Gordon led over Eva Manderson  with 1,131 over Manderson’s  759

For the 911 District: John Eckhardt  is the winner, with 2,253,  William  Slavens 1,860

And in the Tillamook County Transportation District: Jack Graves defeated Chris Kell, with 2,116 votes over Kell’s 1,865

And for the Port of Tillamook Bay,  John Lewis is the winner, with 1,000 votes over  Georgine Beveridge’s 662
