Galizio Appointed to Regional College Accreditation Commission

Clatsop Community College President Dr. Lawrence Galizio has been appointed to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities to serve the remaining term of a seat vacated by Dr. Gerald Pumphrey, former President of South Puget Sound Community College. At the end of this term, he will be eligible for election to a new 3-year term.

Dr. Galizio says, "I'm honored by the appointment to serve and look forward to engaging in the important work of the NW Commission.  Maintaining the institutional and academic integrity of our public post-secondary institutions of education is especially important in the era of globalization and the knowledge economy."
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) is an independent, regional accreditation body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and serving seven states including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. NWCCU establishes accreditation criteria and procedures that address performance, integrity and quality of 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education. The organization is governed by a 26-member Commission composed of institutional representatives and at-large members of the public.

Clatsop Community College participated in a full-scale evaluation in April, 2011. NWCCU reaffirmed the College's accreditation in July, 2011. Following this affirmation, the College is participating in a seven-year cycle of continuous quality assessment and improvement in partnership with NWCCU as part of NWCCU's newly revised standards and accreditation process.
