Area Election Results
In updated local election returns this morning:
For Ward 2 on the Astoria City Council, Drew Herzig prevailed over incumbent Peter Roscoe. In final returns last night, Herzig had 512, or 53 percent of the vote, Incumbent Roscoe garnered 438 votes, or 45 percent.
Tom Bergin has been re-elected for another term as Clatsop County Sheriff. Returns last last showed he got 8,812 votes, or 55 percent to win another four-year term.
His challenger Oregon State Trooper Jim Pierce pulled in 7,025 votes (44 percent)
In the Warrenton City Commission race, Incumbent Commissioner Mark Kujala keeps his position 1 seat, with 1,395 votes, or 69% of the total. His challenger Merianne Myers got 602 votes, or 30% of the total.
For position 2 , Henry Balensifer (bal-en SIFE-er) is in the lead, with 1,079 votes or 52 percent, His challenger Roble Anderson took 923, or 47%.
And for position 3, Tom Dyer is the winner with 59% of the vote. He won 1,120 votes over Ken Yuill’s (YOU-ill) 655 votes, or 34%.
The Warrenton Community Library levy passed with 68% of votes cast. 1,440 in favor, 669 votes against.
And Warrenton citizens voted to amend their city charter to allow direct election of the office of Mayor. Currently the council decides who will occupy the Mayor’s seat.
In Tillamook County Bill Baertlein is the victor in the race for County Commissioner,, with 5,936 votes to Lisa Phipps’ 3,888 votes. Both ran for the seat currently held by Charles Hurliman.
Incumbent Tillamook County Sheriff, Sheriff Andy Long polled 8,256 votes to challenger Bill Spidal’s 1,218. He will continue in the office of County Sheriff.
In Rockaway Beach: the top four candidates: Tom Martine, Susan Wilson Rick Riley and Bonnie Sedgemore will take seats on the Rockaway Beach City Council. Former councilor, Dave May, received 151 votes, not enough to get into the top four slots.
Tillamook County passed a permanent tax rate for the Soil and Water Conservation District, with 5,531 yes votes to 4,109 no votes.
The measure to form the Pioneer Water Supply District has failed at this time, with 230 no votes to 32 yes votes. Initial supporters of the measure publicly asked that it not be passed because of errors in the mapping of the district.
Oregon State Representative Deborah Boone, with 68 percent of the vote, defeated challenger Jim Welsh for another term in District 32. The latest returns show Boone with 17,710 votes, ahead of Welsh, who won 6,614 votes, or 25%, as a Constitution Party candidate. Astorian Perry Roll got 5% of the vote: 1, 379. He ran as a Libertarian.
Measure 81, which would have taken commercial non-tribal gillnet fishers off the Lower Columbia River, failed resoundingly, with over 65% of Oregon voters rejecting the statewide measure.
In Washington, Jamie Herrera Beutler (BUT-ler) won reelection to the US Congress with 59% of the vote, for district 3. Her challenger Democrat Jon Haugen, took 40% of the vote.
Washington State Senator Brian Hatfield and State Representatives Dean Takko (TACK-oh) and Brian Blake will keep their seats in District 19.
In Pacific County, Democrat Steve Rogers will take the position 1 County Commission seat. He won 53 percent of votes counted against Republican Scott McDougall’s 46%. And Frank Wolfe has prevailed for position 2 with 59% percent of the vote over Richard Makowski’s 40%. Both candidates are Democrats.
In Wahkiakum County, the race for position 1 on the County Commission is too close to call, with Democrat Greg Prestegard in the lead with 966 votes over Independent Mike Bachman’s 946. With just a 20 vote difference, and over 200 ballots left to count, the final results will not be released until Thursday.
For position 2, incumbent independent Dan Cothren has been easily re-elected to his fourth term with 1,238 votes, or 66% over 645 votes or just 34% for challenger independent Joan Harvey-Chester.
Incumbent Wahkiakum County Treasurer Marlena Silva has been unseated by Tammy Peterson. Long time county employee Peterson garnered 1,065 votes, or 59% over Silva’s 755 votes, or 41%. Silva was appointed to the position after the retirement of the previous Treasurer, Paula Holloway.
And incumbent Wahkiakum PUD Commissioner Gene Healy retains his seat with 1,121 votes, or 60%, over challenger and former County Commissioner Lisa Marsyla’s 742 votes. (40%)
