On August 9th at around 9:00 PM, a deputy with the Pacific County
Sheriff’s Office performed a traffic stop on a vehicle near the 1400 block of
103rd lane in the Long Beach area. Upon further investigation, the
deputy discovered that the driver of the vehicle had felony warrants for his
arrest pertaining to narcotics violations. The driver of the vehicle was
identified as Michael T. Lewis, age 47, of Long Beach. Lewis was placed under
arrest pursuant the warrants. A female occupant was also in the vehicle.
A
deputy with the Pacific County Drug Task Force arrived at the scene. The Task
Force deputy had additional information relating to the suspect arrested as well
as the vehicle being driven.
The vehicle
that was driven by Lewis was impounded. The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office
narcotics K-9 was utilized around the vehicle and showed an alert response for
narcotics. A search warrant for the vehicle was requested by deputies and
granted by the Honorable Judge Douglas Goelz.
A search of
the interior of the vehicle was conducted in accordance with the search warrant
utilizing the narcotics K-9. A substantial amount of a white crystal like
substance was located in the vehicle. The substance was field tested and showed
a positive response for methamphetamine. A small amount of a black tar like
substance was also located and it field tested positive for the presence of
heroin. A digital weigh scale and packaging material consistent with the
delivering of narcotics were also located. Other evidence gathered during the
search led deputies to believe that both Lewis and the female occupant,
identified as Machel L. Berg, age 28, were in possession of the narcotics and
other related items located. Lewis was booked into the Pacific County Jail on
the outstanding warrants as well as possession of methamphetamine with intent to
deliver and possession of heroin. Berg was arrested and also booked on charges
of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of
heroin.
