An informational and
training meeting for the South Clatsop County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
will be held Monday, Jan. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cannon Beach Fire
District Hall, 188 Sunset Blvd.
Participants can
learn more about the nine-week CERT course, which utilizes a cadre of
instructors to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may
impact their area, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as
fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical
operations.
Once trained, CERT
members can assist others in their neighborhood, community or workplace
following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to
help. Combined area training for this course offering will alternate between
Cannon Beach and Seaside fire halls, ending with a final exercise April
6.
Space is limited and
registration required. For more information contact Lianne Thompson, CERT
Coordinator, at (503) 436-9013 or Clatsop County Emergency Management at (503)
325-8645.
