Tsunami Debris Hotline update

The beach debris reporting hotline 211 may not be working in parts of Clatsop County.  Anyone who has trouble with 211 in Clatsop County is asked to go to http://www.211info.org and report their location.

At any time, you can report beach debris by calling 1-800-SAFENET.

In Washington, the new tsunami debris hotline is 855-922-6278.  Hazardous materials or oil spills can be reported by calling 800-424-8802.  Possibly radioactive marine debris can be reported by calling 206-682-5327 or 360-236-3300.

"The 211 number is working on the vast majority of the coast but thankfully we had the foresight and experience to know that things don't always go as planned, so we have a back-up number which is 1-800-safenet," said Matt Kinsella, Communications Director of 211info.  "We are just really happy to be able to help out Oregon residents and visitors with this service."

"The possible tsunami debris washing up on our shores may continue for months or even years" said General Mike Caldwell, who was appointed as head of the Governor's Task Force on Tsunami Debris cleanup last week. "We know that the 211/1-800safenet service is going to be very helpful in reporting and tracking this debris."  Log onto www.oregon.gov for more information on what and how to report debris.

Phone companies have been working to resolve all technical issues. Anyone who experiences technical difficulties can report them on the 1-800-Safenet number or by visiting 211info.org.

Anyone who finds unusual, large, or debris with Japanese writing is encouraged to call 211 or
1-800safenet to report it.
