Clatsop Economic
Development Resources elected new board members during their Annual Meeting on November 25th. The new board
members were elected for a three year term.
The new board members are Chris
Nemlowill, Co-owner of Fort George Brewery representing the Craft Brewing
Cluster, Kurt Englund, Owner of Englund
Marine Supply representing the Marine & Fishing Sector, Linda Beck Sweeney,
Owner of Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals representing the Hospitality Industry,
and Mark Morgans, Area Manager for Lewis & Clark Timber/Campbell Global
Group, representing the Forestry & Forest Products Sector.
Rosemary Baker-Monaghan, Executive
Director of the Liberty Theater, representing the arts & culture cluster,
was re-elected to a three year term, and will also continue to serve on the
CEDR Executive Committee as Board Secretary and Treasurer.
They join the five other private
sector board members: Skip Hauke, Executive Director of the Astoria-Warrenton
Chamber of Commerce and CEDR Board President, Larry Popkin, Attorney, Campbell
& Popkin LLC, also serving as the Vice-President of the CEDR Board, Pam
Rush, branch manager Bank of the Pacific-Warrenton, Erik Andersson, Economic
Development Manager, Pacific Power, and Paulette McCoy, Public Affairs Manager,
Providence Seaside Hospital.
The public sector is represented by
County Manager Scott Somers, executive committee member, President of Clatsop
Community College Dr. Larry Galizio, executive committee member, Astoria City
Manager Brett Estes, Cannon Beach City Manager Brant Kucera, Gearhart Mayor
Diane Widdop, Seaside City Councilor Tita Montero, Warrenton Mayor Mark Kujala
and Port of Astoria Commisioner Bob Mushen.
Advisory board members are Erik
Thorsen, Chief Executive Officer for Columbia Memorial Hospital, Kristi Ward,
Community Relations Manager for Georgia Pacific Wauna Mill, Susan Huntington,
Executive Director of the Seaside Chamber of Commerce, Court Carrier, Executive
Director of the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Jeff Hazen, Executive
Director of Sunset Empire Transportation District.
Kevin Leahy serves as the Executive
Director for CEDR and the Clatsop Community College Small Business Development
Center.
CEDR is the Economic Development
Organization for Clatsop County, whose sole purpose is economic development of
Clatsop County, with a mission statement that speaks to delivering
business-driven economic development services to CREATE, GROW and RETAIN
Clatsop County Businesses, with a focus on retention and growth of existing
businesses.
CEDR and the Clatsop Community
College SBDC have served over 270 business clients over the past year and a
half, providing free and confidential business advising, contributed to over 67
new and retained jobs, 11 new business starts, over $1,400,000 in financing
assistance with local businesses, 77 workforce training workshops with over 780
attendees, and oversees the official Clatsop Community College SBDC Small
Business Management program, serving 29 businesses in the program that has been
part of Clatsop Community College since 1979.
CEDR is currently in the midst of a
membership campaign and continues to focus on the free and confidential
advising for the business community, workforce training, business development
and retention, and focus on the key employment sectors in Clatsop County of
Hospitality/Tourism/Retail Trade, Health Care, Forestry/Wood Products,
Marine/Maritime/Fishing, Manufacturing, Entrepreneurs and the important
Historic Preservation and Arts & Culture cluster.
