BOCCC RECOGNIZES VOLUNTEERS, APPROVES LEASE AND ACCESS FOR WESTPORT FERRY



The Board of Clatsop County Commissioners recognized local volunteers during their morning meeting today (Wed).  The board proclaimed April 6th through 12th as Volunteer Week in Clatsop County.

Sue Farmer, County Volunteer Coordinator, said over the past year, 520 volunteers provided 19,626 hours of service with a value of $434,520.00 to the county. 

Dick Lang was recognized as a Volunteer of the Year for his services in coordinating van drivers and rides for veterans for Clatsop County Veterans Services.  11 volunteer van drivers were also given service plaques.

Katie Paaso (PASS-oh) was also recognized as a Volunteer of the Year for her service on the advisory board for Clatsop 4-H.  Special mention was made of her grant writing and successful fundraising for the organization.

Three Clatsop residents were given awards for being outstanding individual volunteers within a group.  Lorna Grant was recognized for her work with youth in 4-H Paws in Action.  Marcy Dunning was honored for her work with the Clatsop County Animal Shelter and Bruce Linehan (LINE uh ham) was recognized for his work as a reserve deputy sheriff. 
 

In other business:

The board approved steps to aid in the work to replace the Westport ferry and ferry landing.  Approval was given for a temporary access easement across six acres belonging to Teevin Bros. Land and Timber Company for access to the work site, also a lease was approved for a temporary dock while work is in progress. 

New Commissioner Matt Samuelson was appointed to a seat on the board of NW Senior and Disability Services after Commissioner Peter Hutala stepped down from the position.
