Bonamici to Visit Small Businesses in Seaside Friday to Promote Shopping Locally this Holiday Season

On Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10:15am Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) will meet with Susan Huntington from the Seaside Chamber of Commerce and join her on a tour of local small retailers in downtown Seaside, OR.  The Congresswoman will encourage Oregonians to shop small and local during the holiday season and draw attention to the importance of supporting Oregon’s rural coastal communities.

“This is a great time to visit Seaside and other coastal communities in Oregon.  There are fewer crowds and great opportunities to do some holiday shopping at a variety of unique shops.”

Who:             Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici; Susan Huntington, Executive Director,
                        Seaside Chamber of Commerce
What:          Shop Small, Shop Local: Seaside Small Business Tour and Discussion
When:         Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10:15am
Where:        Seaside Chamber of Commerce, 7 N Roosevelt Drive, Seaside, OR 97138

“Seaside is a vibrant tourist attraction, particularly in the summer months.  But when summer is over and many visitors go home, permanent residents of these small coastal towns still need to make a living.  Small business owners in coastal areas face many challenges, including the seasonality of tourism and difficulties finding reliable access to a skilled local workforce.”

“I’m looking forward to visiting with several Seaside business owners and their employees and participating in a discussion with the local Chamber of Commerce on the implications of federal legislation for small businesses and rural coastal communities.  Our coastal communities are an important part of the cultural identity and natural beauty of Oregon and they deserve our support.”
