Astoria Police Seek Information Related to a Theft, Forgery and Fraud Case

Astoria Police are looking for information related to Theft, Forgery, and Fraudulent Obtaining of Controlled Substances on the part of Sarah Smith, Age 27 of Gearhart. They have developed information that there may be several cases that are unreported.
On August 19, 2013 Officer Nicole Riley took a call from a local dentist who had taken a check on a closed account, from a closed bank. The patient who had written the check was Sarah Smith, Age 27 of Seaside. The Checks belonged to an Astoria resident who had reported a burglary in June.

Officer Riley, while on routine patrol on August 20, 2013 at 8:49 AM saw Smith drive by. Officer Riley stopped the vehicle Smith was driving. She developed probable cause and arrested her for the single charge of Identity Theft.
After taking her into custody Officer Riley obtained a search warrant for Smith’s residence at the Windjammer Motor Inn, 4253 Highway 101 N, Gearhart OR. The warrant was served with the assistance of the Clatsop County Sheriff’s office and the Gearhart Police Department. During this search, and also a search of her vehicle items were located that indicated there may be other victims that have yet to report crimes.
