"The strongest storm of the fall season will bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of Oregon and Washington today through Wednesday. Storm #1 will move through today bringing rain and gusty winds to mainly the coast and northern Willamette Valley. Storm #2 is currently projected to pack quite a punch on Tuesday. As the center of the storm tracks north offshore, a strong cold front will bring wind gusts approaching 75-80 mph along the north Oregon beaches and 40-45 mph in the valley Tuesday. Eastern Oregon and Washington will also see gusty winds from storm #2. Computer estimated rainfall totals through Wednesday evening are quite impressive, ranging anywhere from 3-6" along the northern Oregon coast to 2-4" in the valleys. Although forecast models are still wavering a bit, there appears to be a growing consensus of NW Oregon and SW Washington being the area that will see the highest rainfall totals. The heaviest rainfall will likely fall from early Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service currently has several advisories, watches and warnings posted for high wind, rainfall and the potential for localized flooding. Communities in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington have the potential to receive a lot of rainfall in a short period of time between now and Wednesday."Steve Pierce is currently the President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
