The Clatsop County Sheriff's Office is making available ATV Safety classes
to Clatsop County youth. As of January of 2012 all youth riding ATV's or
dirtbikes on public lands in Oregon are required to have completed a "hands on"
class. The Sheriff's Office is presenting the ATV Safety Institute Ridercourse to endorse youth
under this requirement. And, for the first time, the course has partnered with Deanna
Holbrook and the MSF Dirtbilke School to provide hands on training for youth
riding motorcycles off road.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012 Deanna will present the Dirtbike
School at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds beginning at:
8:00 am for ages 6-11 (need 4 to make a class)
2:00 pm for ages 12 and up. (need 6 or more to make a class)
Register by September 26 thru the MSF Dirtbike School web site http://www.dirtbikeschool.org/.
Prices are $25 for ages 6-15 Oregon Parks is subsidizing the
rest
$125 for 16 and up
Then on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 9:00 AM the ATV
Safety Institute Ridercourse will take place, also at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. This is a
3 Â1/2 to 4 hour training class. Upon successful completion riders will also be
"hands on" endorsed. Registration for this class is handled by the Institute,
register by calling 1-800-887-2887. Oregon residents pay $5 for this class after
the Oregon Tuition Subsidy is applied. Request that subsidy when calling to
register. Also, some ATV manufacturers also provide financial incentives for
attending this training. Check your paperwork for your ATV for such information.There are one 50cc and one 90cc loaner available for this training. Reserve when
registering.
Students must have obtained the Oregon ATV Safety Education Card, by
completing online training available at www.rideatvoregon.org prior to attending this hands on
class. This online course is free.
